Electricity bill in Malaysia
If you live in Malaysia, you will receive an invoice from TNB every month. TNB stands for Tenaga Nasional Berhad, a company that supplies electricity throughout Malaysia.
Except for special corporate contracts, ordinary households pay electricity bills based on TNB tariffs. As of October 2022, the usage fee is RM0.2180 per kWh up to 200kWh, RM0.3340 for the next 100kWh, and the price is set for each 300kWh thereafter, increasing from RM0.5160 to RM0.5710. . Households that use air conditioners often consume more than 300 kWh of electricity, so it is easy to understand if you consider that additional costs of RM0.5 per 1 kWh of air conditioners are required.
The power consumption of a 1 horsepower air conditioner is about 0.75 kWh, so if you forget to turn off the air conditioner and leave it on for 10 hours, the electricity bill will be about 0.75 kW x 10 hours x RM0.5 / kWh = RM3.75. It can be calculated by considering how easy it is to remember, a 1-horsepower air conditioner that is left on for 2 hours costs about RM1, and a large 2-horsepower air conditioner costs RM1 per hour.
